Head Teacher's Welcome

Welcome to Battling Brook Primary School’s website.

Thank you for taking the time to find out about our wonderful school.

We are incredibly proud of our community feel at Battling Brook; a large primary school that has a small school feel and looks after it’s community.  Many of our staff have worked here for a number of years and we are proud to be teaching the next generations of many of our families.

Having worked at Battling Brook myself for over 20 years, it is a privilege to welcome the children of previous pupils I taught, back as parents themselves!  It is a delight to show them how we continue to develop our curriculum and provision, whilst maintaining what makes Battling Brook so special to many.

Relationships are at the heart of all that we do and we believe these are key to success, whether that be now at school, but also in the future.

Staff are dedicated and committed to providing the very best for our pupils; we strive to provide a curriculum that covers the knowledge and skills that are required, but also the skills needed to be able to succeed in 21st century Britain.  By working with innovative leading professionals in the field of education, we provide an engaging, exciting, relevant curriculum for our pupils.

The curriculum section of the website details this further.

Our whole school aims of E.A.C.H. are at the heart of all that we do.

           Equality

           Active Learning

           Compassion

           Honour

In order to achieve these aims, we apply our school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe to ensure that every child can achieve.

At Battling Brook our vision is to develop the whole child, to ensure that every child can achieve their personal best. In addition to developing traditional skills in Reading, Writing and Maths and knowledge and study in other areas of the curriculum, we also aim to develop skills for life:

            Determination

            Imagination

            Socialising

            Curiosity

            Organisation

            Reflection

            Attention

            Thinking

We are committed to creating this environment by having high expectations of personal conduct, both from adults and the children by everyone following the guidance of Ready, Respectful and Safe.

‘Active Learning’ means it is our intention ‘to develop all students as confident and capable learners – ready, willing, and able to choose, design, research, pursue, troubleshoot, and evaluate learning for themselves, alone and with others, in school and out, for grades and for life.’

We use our name in order to demonstrate our provision and our intention. A brook starts small and gathers momentum.  All rivers start somewhere, these foundations are key to develop a strong and healthy river. As our learners travel along our learning river, we provide and develop experiences, knowledge, skills and understanding on the journey. We teach our children that finding rocks in the river of life is normal and to be expected; we use these rocks as learning points and teach children how to cope with and overcome difficulties.

“It is from small streams that big rivers rise.” Matshona Dhliwayo
