P.E. Sports Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

The P.E. Premium money provided by the Government has once again been secured for the academic year of 2019/2020. The funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport over the last two academic years has enabled us as a school to grow and development our P.E. provision. We have used the funding in many ways; utilising staff professional development opportunities, being able to offer a wider range of extracurricular activities and the employment of sport specific coaches to enhance teaching and learning. This has enabled us to further up-skill staff teaching and improve pupil outcomes as well as helping to strengthen children’s confidence, resilience and wellbeing.

P.E. and school sport play a very important role for us at Battling Brook. We believe that P.E and school sport allows the children to develop as a whole from how they communicate with each other, how they conduct themselves and how physically literate they are as they move on from our school.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic some of the funding was not used as expected.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.
  • The above uses will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure continued improvements.

How will we be spending the Sports Premium and who will benefit?

All children benefit regardless of sporting ability; that the most able children are given the opportunity to compete in advanced tournaments; that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development and that the children should be encouraged to develop healthy lifestyles.

To review how our previous academic year’s allocation of the Sport Premium was spent please see the attached reports below.  Reports include our spending for the current academic year 21/22 and how it is intended that this will be spent, its effect (impact) on the PE, sport participation and attainment of the students who attract this funding

Sports Premium Targets:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick starting healthy active lifestyles.
  2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
