At Battling Brook, we believe all children have the right to a rich, broad, balanced and relevant education, which provides continuity and progression. It also takes pupils’ individual differences into account. Work is designed to deliver the requirements of the National Curriculum whilst meeting the needs of our specific pupils.
We take a creative, thematic approach to our curriculum and where natural links between subjects occur, lessons are taught with the specific topic or theme as a stimulus. Some, skills however, are taught more discretely.
Our Curriculum is personal to our pupils as it is underpinned by our whole school aims: Equality, Active Learning, Compassion and Honour (EACH). We ensure a balanced curriculum, through teaching both the knowledge and the skills to enable pupils to progress in each subject area.
Each year group has a set of Knowledge Essentials for each subject. This is key knowledge that all children should know by the end of the year and is informally tested; this knowledge is regularly recapped to make sure that the information is retained.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure progression through skills. Each year group has their own set of skills for each subject, which are built on each year.
Please click on the subjects below to see the skills and knowledge progression from Years 1 to 6.
Each year group has its own overview to show what is being taught. To see information for your child’s year, please see your child’s year group page.
